Lady ‘Cats to begin GLIAC play
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team is off to a solid start this season. The Lady ‘Cats went 3-1 during their four game non-conference schedule.
One of those wins was a 75-66 victory over Lewis University back on Nov. 24. NMU begins conference play on Thursday, Dec. 5 at home against Walsh University.
Wildcats head coach Troy Mattson says all the pieces to the puzzle are there for his team to compete for a conference title this season.
“We have a lot of veteran players that are back and people understand what it takes to win in this league,” said Mattson. If you want to do anything in league play, you got to win on your home court. Defensively, we’ve been solid, but I like the points that we are putting up right now. The past couple years we’ve struggled to put points on the board, but this year we’ve shown the capabilities of scoring quite a bit.”
“Each and every day you have to come ready to play,” said Wildcats junior guard Alyssa Colla. “We all want to win and we all know that we should win. It’s to the point now that we know we can win and we know that we’re going to win.”
Tip-off between Walsh and NMU is set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lady Cats will play against Malone at 11am on Saturday.
