NMU hockey team to face Broncos
Road trips for college hockey teams can be long and grueling. Just ask the Northern Michigan University hockey team about that.
The Wildcats traveled north to Fairbanks for two games last week. NMU left the frozen tundra of Alaska with a series split against the Nanooks.
NMU will head downstate to Kalamazoo later this week for a pair of games against Western Michigan University. The two teams have met a grand total of 56 times. The Broncos have won the last six meetings.
Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle told ABC 10 Sports that his team must continue to play well on the road in order to have continued success this season.
“We have to be a good road team if we’re going to win and it doesn’t matter where we’re going,” said Kyle. “The trip to Alaska was long, but it was fairly good. Now we have to get back in the saddle and go down and play Western Michigan. They’re a very good team and we haven’t had a lot of success in that building in the last couple of years, so we’re going to have to be at the top of our game to have some success.”
“They’re a tough team,” said Wildcats forward Stephan Vigier about the Broncos. “They play well in their own barn. They’re very physical and quick. They jump on loose pucks and they’re going to be a tough opponent for us that’s for sure.”
Puck drop on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday, as the Broncos and Wildcats will begin play at 5 p.m.
