Marquette Royales off to fast start
The Marquette Royales have certainly made some noise in their inaugural year playing in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League.
The Royales have won eleven straight games after beginning the season 0-2. Marquette took care of business over the weekend against the St. Louis Frontenacs, winning all three games.
The Royales outscored the Frontenacs 25 to 1 in the three-game series. Marquette is currently at the top of the Great Lakes Conference Standings, one point ahead of the Illiana Blackbirds.
Mike Stanaway, the head coach of the Royales, couldn’t be happier with the way his team has started the season.
“Things are really starting to come together offensively and our goaltending has been fantastic, so we’re really starting to come together in all aspects of the game,” said Stanaway.
“It’s going to be a tough test for us,” said Stanaway about playing the Blackbirds. “We are really going to have to put things together during practice this week to prepare for them.”
“We’re more comfortable playing with each other, we’re gelling more with each other now than compared to the start of the season,” said Royales forward Trevor Givens.
“We just move the puck really well,” said Royales forward Mike House. “We have to go out there, play hard, and not let up at all. If we continue to move the puck a little bit more, we should be good.”
The three-game series between the Royales and the Blackbirds begins on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30pm. The Royales play all of their home games at Lakeview Arena.
