High speed chase suspects arraigned
Two people involved in a high speed chase in a stolen car in Mackinac County last week were arraigned Friday.
The driver of the vehicle, 18–year–old Levi Hamilton and one passenger, 17–year–old Vance Demorest are charged with two, five–year felonies: attempting to flee or elude police and possession of a stolen vehicle. They are also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and larceny of gas, both of which are misdemeanors.
Hamilton has two additional misdemeanor charges: reckless driving and license plate violation.
Both are in the Mackinac County Jail on $20,000 bonds.
The pair, along with a 16–year–old juvenile, took police on a high speed chase on U.S. 2 near Gould City at speeds over 100 miles per hour before crashing at a T intersection. Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department Deputies immediately arrested Hamilton, but Demorest and the juvenile fled into the woods. They were caught a short time later.
The juvenile has been turned over to juvenile authorities.
Hamilton and Demorest have pretrial conferences set for October 22 in 92nd District Court.
