Memorial gifts to Great Lakes Recovery Centers
A U.P. nonprofit organization is touched by a show of support from families that have lost loved ones within the last several weeks.
Multiple Marquette-area families have contacted Great Lakes Recovery Centers recently.
The families have asked friends and loved ones to make donations to the nonprofit group instead of buying flowers. Hundreds of dollars have been raised.
“They’re dealing with a lot of grief, and they’re dealing with it in a positive way by trying to reach out into the communities and supporting behavioral health and trying to help others,” Great Lakes Recovery Centers Foundation coordinator Andy Chosa said. “We accept those contributions with the promise that we’ll do everything we can to help deal with these issues in the future.”
Many people in the U.P. may not be familiar with Great Lakes Recovery Centers and what they do. They provide substance abuse and mental health treatment and prevention services.
“Here in Marquette, we’ve got an outpatient facility; we’ve got a youth residential facility, an adult residential facility,” Chosa said. “We’ve also got adult residential facilities in Sault Ste. Marie.”
They also have outpatient facilities across the Upper Peninsula, from the Sault to as far west as Ironwood.
Chosa says if you want to know more about them, you can visit their website or call them at (906) 228-9699.
