Huskies blank Wildcats in soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team had five different players score in a 5-0 win Thursday at Marquette against Northern Michigan.
Alyssa Hynnek opened the scoring just 2:18 into the contest. Lindsey Van Rooy extended the Huskies lead to 2-0 just before the first half ended for her second goal of the season.
With the wind behind them in the second half, the Huskies tallied three more goals. Mackenzie Jordan, Katie Pappas, and Kathryn Fife each scored to extend the MTU lead out to 5-0.
Fife scored her goal on a breakaway, while Jordan and Papas scored their goals off corner kicks. Michigan Tech had the edge in shots, 17-7.
Huskies goalie MaryBeth Spoehr was credited with a shutout. The Huskies are now 2-1-0 to start the season, while the Wildcats are still seeking their first win of the season (0-4-0).
