NMU football team ready for Findlay

After nearly a month of practices and scrimmages, the Northern Michigan football team is just three days away from playing their first game of the regular season.

On Saturday, Northern Michigan will take on Findlay. The Oilers played their season opener last week and they won the game, 51-33 over Urbana.

Last season, the Wildcats fell on the road to the Oilers, 45-10. For NMU, Saturday afternoon can’t come soon enough.

“We are as healthy as we’ve ever been for an opener,” said Wildcats head coach Chris Ostrowsky. “We’ve had time to recover from the camp grind and we’re really excited to play.”

“We’re excited to see our product on the field play a football game and our guys have really, really worked hard for a long time, so it should be a good day for us,” added Ostrowsky.

“They’re a good defense. They’re very fast and very physical, so we have to be very good on the perimeter blocking and catch the ball to make plays,” said Wildcats wide receiver Christian Jessie.

“We’ve been waiting all of fall camp for this. We’ve already had our bye week and we’re excited to get out there and play someone else,” said Jessie.

“I can’t wait to see the team, the fans, the coaches, just everything come together for the first time this year,” said Wildcats quarterback Cody Scepaniak. “Everybody played last week, so we’re riding off the adrenaline a little bit from a long camp. I think we’re ready to come out here and put on a show.”

Kickoff between Northern Michigan and Findlay is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats on their season opener last year, 24-6 against Wisconsin La-Crosse.
