Huskies to host hockey tourney
The Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament is still several months off, but Michigan Tech University is looking forward to the next four GLI tournaments. The Huskies will serve as the host of the annual four-team event with Michigan and Michigan State through 2016.
Western Michigan University is the fourth team in this year’s tournament, which will take place outdoors at Comerica Park in Detroit. Ferris State University will replace the Broncos in 2014.
Northern Michigan University will play in the GLI in 2015, followed by Western Michigan in 2016.
“We’re excited to be able to renew some in-state rivalries at the GLI in the coming years,” said Michigan Tech athletic director Suzanne Sanregret in a statement to the media. “The Detroit Red Wings, Olympia Entertainment, Michigan and Michigan State have been great partners with Michigan Tech over the years. We look forward to adding to the great tradition and history of the tournament.”
The Great Lakes Invitational was first played in 1965. The Huskies have won the GLI 10 times, including last year’s tournament.
