An Ishpeming man is in jail after being arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and causing a single-vehicle car accident in Marquette County.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says the incident happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday in Ely Township on County Road CG, two miles south of County Road 581.
Police say the twenty-year-old man was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on County Road CG when he lost control on a curve south of the Steel Bridge. The car left the roadway and crashed into small trees on the shoulder.
GPS coordinates were used from a passenger’s cell phone in helping find the scene of the accident.
A twenty-year-old woman, also from Ishpeming, was taken to Bell Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The driver is now lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
The Michigan State Police, Bell Hospital EMS, Ishpeming Township Fire Department, and Ely Township First Responders all assisted at the scene.
