Woman who stabbed fiance in court
A woman who allegedly stabbed her fiance in West Branch Township was arraigned in Marquette County Circuit Court early Friday morning.
Cloea Wiig, 36, pled no contest to one count of Felonious Assault or Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. That charge is felony in Michigan, punishable by up to four years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000.
By pleading no contest, Wiig does not have the right to appeal the court’s decision.
The prosecutor recounted a detailed description of the June 29 incident, which was taken from the victim, James Putvin, 43, of Skandia.
“They got into an argument over something fairly trivial, but they both became angry,” the prosecutor said. “At some point, Mr. Putvin testified at some point the defendant (Wiig) swung a dish rack at him a number of times threatening to hit him with it. But he was able to fend it off, and one time he blocked it and feels his hand hit her.”
“She then left where they were, went into a bedroom. Shortly thereafter she came out with a knife and she recognized be be a knife that she carried in her purse for protection. She rushed at him and stabbed him in the side with the knife.”
Putvin was then transported to Marquette General Hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained as a result of the stabbing and subsequently released.
Wiig is scheduled for sentencing on Friday, September 13 at 8:30 a.m.
