Peralta suspended for 50 games
Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta has been suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball officials on Monday for his involvement with Biogenesis, a clinic in Florida that allegedly provided players with performance enhancing drugs or substances.
Peralta will not appeal his 50-game suspension. He was having his best season as a Tiger, hitting .305 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs, making the American League All-Star team in 2013.
Last week, the Tigers acquired shortstop Jose Iglesias from the Boston Red Sox, as an insurance policy in case Peralta was suspended.
