Wildcats hold youth football camp
The Northern Michigan University football coaches and players had their hands full this week at the Superior Dome.
Twenty-five kids took part in the Wildcats youth football camp. Friday was the final day of camp.
Each of the campers received one-on-one instruction on the fundamentals of football from the NMU coaches and players. The kids enjoyed their daily interaction with the players.
Air-Force football games were a big part of the camp. After playing Air-Force football for a couple of hours on Friday, the kids wanted to keep going, but the NMU football players were exhausted.
“Over the last couple of days, they (the NMU football players) have been worn out a little bit,” said Brian Mitz, the running backs coach at NMU. They’ve played their fair share of Air-Force football games, so they are taking a little break,” added Mitz.
NMU offensive lineman Peter Hagermoser enjoyed his time with the kids at camp.
“It was a little chaotic with the kids in the beginning, but it’s been fun playing football with them. I want to be a teacher, so I’ve learned a lot about how to handle kids,” said Hagermoser.
The NMU football team will begin practicing for the 2013 season on Saturday, Aug. 17.
