Little League tournament wrap up

Baseball players, coaches and umpires traveled to the Ishpeming last week for the Little League Majors State Tournament. The Ishpeming Little League Board of Directors found out last September that they would host the 2013 tournament.

After months of preparation, six days of games, hundreds of hot dogs and thousands of fans in attendance, a state champion was crowned. Jeff Adriano, the tournament director, told ABC 10 Sports on Friday that all the hard work that went into putting on the tournament was well worth it.

“We had so many positive comments from the fans, the coaches, and the players,” said Adriano. “The one comment that really felt good about was from one of our former league presidents.”

“He came down to the fields, looked them over, and said ‘That was the best that the fields have looked since he could ever remember.’ That felt really good to hear something like that,” Adriano went on to say.

For Adriano, it was his first time ever running a tournament of this caliber, and he would love the opportunity to do it again.

“If we could do it all over again, by all means I would definitely push to make sure that we had to the opportunity to do it,” said Adriano.

“We (the Ishpeming Little League Board of Directors) are making some plans now to prepare ourselves for a future opportunity to host a tournament at another level,” Adriano went on to say.

Ishpeming will not be eligible to host the Majors State Tournament again until 2029.
