Breakwall project set for Thursday
The U.S. Coast guard will establish a no–boating safety zone near the lower harbor breakwall Thursday as part of a repair project.
Crews will be pouring a new concrete foundation for the breakwall light, beginning tomorrow afternoon.
It will involve a helicopter hauling concrete from the shore to the end of the breakwall.
And, as a safety precaution due to the weight of each load, the area will be closed to boaters.
The coast guard will enforce a 400-yard safety zone during the one-day project.
The project was slated to begin today, but was cancelled because of the high winds.
