MARQUETTE, Mich.—United States Olympic Education Center weightlifter Allie Henry earned a silver medal on Thursday, June 27, at the Pan American Championships in Isla Margarita, Venezuela.
Henry, of River Falls, Wis., lifted 98-kilograms in the snatch, earning her a medal in that category. Her 109 kg lift in the clean and jerk earned her a fourth place finish overall in the 69-kg weight class.
“Allie worked hard to qualify and prepare for this event,” said coach Vance Newgard. “To earn a medal and come so close to a top three overall finish in international competition was nice to see.”
In other USOEC action, club team members Jarynn and Dinele Stewart of Marquette competed on June 28–30 at the USA Weightlifting Youth Championships.
In only their second competition outside of home meets, the sisters both lifted personal records and ended the weekend in the top 10.
Lifting in the 14 -15 year old division, Jarynn earned a sixth-place finish with a 93 kg overall total, beating her old personal best by 10 kg.
In the 16 -17 year old division, Dinele finished in seventh place with a 90 kg total, besting her overall personal record by 8 kg.
Coach Vance Newgard is pleased with the direction the team is heading.
“To see both our senior and youth athletes lifting so strong is great to see,” said Newgard. “We will continue to work hard in the gym to keep improving and qualifying athletes for these major events.”
