Mqt. Zonta Club art auction
The Marquette chapter of a worldwide club dedicated to helping women is getting ready to raise some money by celebrating some of the finer things in life.
The Marquette Area Zonta Club is getting ready for its Summer Solstice Art Auction.
It takes place this coming Monday night from 5:30 to 8 at the Landmark Inn in Marquette.
Members were busy this afternoon gathering many of the pieces that will be up for bids.
“The Zonta Club of Marquette only holds two fundraisers a year,” club president and auction co-chair Kori Tossava said. “One is our Koeze nut sale, and this is our other one, so it’s a good way for everybody to get together. We raise all of the money, and it goes right back into the community for grants and scholarships.”
A wine rack full of fine bottles and a charter airplane sightseeing trip will also go to the highest bidder.
This is the second year for the Summer Solstice Auction.
“We started out last year with a bang; we had 40 pieces,” Tossava said. “We raised over $5,000 that we were able to give back to the community. This year, we’ve had even better response from the artists and from local businesses who’ve sponsored our event this year.”
Bell Hospital, UPPCO and SIR Federal Credit Union are just a few of those sponsors.
Tickets cost $10 and the Landmark Inn still has some available tonight, but the event is expected to sell out.
