Mascot complaint dropped
Three Upper Peninsula schools will not have to worry about changing their school mascot or their school logos anytime soon.
The complaint filed by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, which focused on the use of Indian mascots or logos by 35 schools in the state, was denied by the U.S. Education for Civil Rights.
Gladstone, Marquette, and Newberry were the U.P. schools listed in the complaint, which was filed by the MDCR back in February.
