UPAWS shelter cat adoption special
In the last few years, several national animal welfare agencies have designated June as Adopt A Shelter Cat Month.
Many animal shelters hold special promotions for the occasion.
The U.P. Animal Welfare Shelter in Negaunee Township is one of them.
Summer is the busiest time of year at UPAWS, especially when it comes to cats.
Through June 15th, UPAWS is offering a big discount.
“All the cat adoptions, any cat that’s six months or older, the adoptions are going to be 50% off,” UPAWS supervisor Theresa Wipperman said. “It kind of helps for us, here, making a little bit more room; it definitely helps to get some cats out into some nice homes, so it’s a really good thing that we’re doing.”
There are as many variations in the personalities of cats as there are among people, and UPAWS says it has cats that can suit any type of interested owner.
“Active, calm, old, young, really outgoing, some that are a little bit more shy, so I think something for everyone. If anyone stops out, they’re going to find something they’re looking for,” Wipperman said.
Anyone who adopts a cat from UPAWS in June is entered into a free drawing for a cat-themed gift basket worth $80.
UPAWS is also giving away bags of cat toys and treats that local Girl Scouts made for them.
