Charity cookout at Mqt. Econo Foods

If you went grocery shopping in Marquette in the middle of the day today, you may have found an unexpected sight.

The Econo Foods store hosted a cookout from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Employees were grilling up Angus Pride ribeye steak sandwiches for hungry shoppers.

A sandwich and a can of pop cost $4, and all of the proceeds will go to a great cause.

“We’re doing a cookout for the American Cancer Society, the Relay for Life”, store manager Zach Quinnell said. “Last year, we were able to raise over $3,000 for them, and we’re hoping to beat that again this year. We’ll have a tent up at Al Quaal, and stop by and see us; we’ll have a lot of goodies.”

The cookout raised more than $500.

And because the Relay for Life is still more than a week away, the pledge money hasn’t been counted yet, so the store is well on its way to its 3–thousand dollar goal.

The Relay for Life is June 15th and 16th at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
