U.P. road construction
Road construction season in the Upper Peninsula is now fully underway, and MDOT is starting several road and bridge projects in the U.P. within the next few days.
The following projects all begin this coming Monday, June 3rd:
— Baraga County: Repaving the shoulders of the M-28/US-141 intersection in Covington and installing curbs and gutters there. Expected completion date: August 9th.
— Chippewa County: Resurfacing 11.1 miles of M-28 from west of Raco to M-221 and demolishing the underlying concrete. The work also includes wider shoulders and sign upgrades. Expected completion date: October 11th.
— Houghton County: Rebuilding about eight-tenths of a mile of M-26 from the South Range city limit to Cemetery Road and realigning curves in the area. Expected completion date: September 18th.
— Ontonagon County: Repair work on three bridges on M-64. The deck of the Duck Creek bridge will be replaced. Joints will be replaced and structural steel will be repainted on both the Mineral River bridge and the Potato River bridge. Estimated completion date: September 27th.
Also, the following project began this morning:
— Menominee County: Reconstructing one mile of M-35 in Menominee from the US-41 intersection to 48th Avenue. The affected section of M-35 is closed, and through traffic is being detoured to 48th Avenue and US-41. Expected completion date: October 31st.
