Hundreds in Marquette Co. still in dark

Hundreds of people in Marquette County are still without power late Friday morning after Thursday night’s storms.

UPPCO is reporting that nearly 800 of its customers are in the dark.

More than 550 of the affected customers are in the Republic area; Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post reported Thursday night that there were downed power lines near Fence River Road in Republic.

More than a hundred customers in the Ishpeming area are also without power.

Crews will be working all day to try to restore power. However, there’s no estimate of when UPPCO thinks everyone will have electricity restored.

UPPCO says they’ve encountered many downed trees, branches and power lines, as well as some broken utility poles.

Company officials say fallen branches can frequently hide downed lines.

They also say that if you see a downed power line, you should always assume the line is energized and stay away from it.

UPPCO is also asking anyone who loses power or who sees a situation that looks potentially dangerous to call them toll-free at 1-800-562-7809.
