Fire at Mqt. power plant
Firefighters from the City of Marquette Fire Department responded to a fire at the WE Energies Presque Isle Power Plant Tuesday night. They got the call just before 9:30 p.m. about a fire on the roof of building number 4.
The fire department says the fire was confined to a diesel exhaust ventilator, which was being used to vacate air from the building in support of an asbestos abatement operation.
The fire was complicated by potential asbestos contamination of the firefighters. Firefighters were decontaminated at the scene. The diesel air handling unit was damaged during the fire.
There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
The Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, and Medi-Ride EMS all assisted at the scene.
