NCAA Tournament over for Finlandia
The Finlandia Lions softball team lost this afternoon 10-2 to Carthage College in the NCAA Division III Whitewater Regional. This was the Lions second loss in the regional, ending their tournament run (0-2).
Finlandia trailed the entire game, as the Lady Reds scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Lions scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first, thanks to an RBI from Kristen Rose.
In the third, Finlandia trailed 3-1, Kari Jewett hit a solo home run for the Lions, which pulled Finlandia back to within one run of Carthage.
However, the Lady Reds scored five runs in the fourth inning, thanks to two home runs. Bryanna Heckel had two home runs and four RBIs in the game for Carthage.
The loss to the Lady Reds ends the season for Finlandia. The Lions finish the year with a 25-8 record.
Finlandia won the Great Southern Athletic Conference tournament in late April, which guaranteed them a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
