Escanaba & businesses on PBS Friday
From the Delta County Commerce Center:
When the Emmy Award-winning PBS show Under the Radar Michigan (UTR) came to Escanaba looking for adventure, they found The Lofts on Ludington, a candy factory, a Swedish food emporium and more! Under The Radar Michigan is a fast-paced, modern, weekly program that explores the best of Michigan, airing all across Michigan, in Northern Ohio, Eastern Wisconsin and in 2.5 Million homes in Canada. The object of the show is to discover the people, places and things that are unique about Michigan.
Tom Daldin, host and writer for the show stated, “Since we launched Under the Radar Michigan, our goal has been to create a dialogue that’s not just about the 30 minutes of TV that we create each week. We’ve wanted to build a brand that connects people to Michigan. The State of Michigan has so much to offer – not only to the 10 million people that live here, but to the entire nation. And in this new world, it is more important than ever to get the word out. Think modern, hip, high tech, fast-paced travel channel concentrating on only Michigan.”
The Under the Radar crew was captivated by Escanaba. The show was filmed last fall, and highlights The Lofts on Ludington including an interview with Matt Sviland about the project, and features “The Lofty Girls,” the owners of the three businesses located at The Lofts: Ashley Westlund (Salon West & Spa), Rachel Miron (Pink Sugar Co.), and Holly Nylund (Holly Nylund Photography). The UTR crew also spent time at Sayklly’s Candy Factory, Sayklly’s Candy Store, The Stonehouse Restaurant, The Swedish Pantry, The House of Ludington, and Ludington Park.
“Under The Radar Michigan showcases the extraordinarily talented people we have in Michigan; from artists and teachers, to inventors and entrepreneurs. UTR is the show that features every part of the Michigan experience,” said Daldin.
Under the Radar Michigan, episode #315, featuring their “Escanaba Adventure” will air Friday, May 10th at 5:00 PM on WNMU Public TV 13.
