Marquette Co. students rewarded for Excellence
Students may sometimes not be able to see the rewards for the hard work that they put into their class work. But this morning, nearly 200 students from Ishpeming, Negaunee, NICE and Republic– Michigamme Schools were recognized for that hard work.
Today marked the 24th annual Excellence in Education day for the schools in western Marquette County. Cliffs Natural Resources rewards students from 8th through 12th grade for receiving all A’s in their first semester of the school year.
The partnership was formed by Cliffs as a way of becoming involved with, and supporting education and recognizing academic achievement in the area.
The annual Excellence in Education Day honors students from the four school districts who have received all “A”s during the first semester of the current school year. This year, 187 students are being honored.
Former State Representative Steve Lindberg addressed the students at breakfast to kick–off the event.
Students had the opportunity to take a train ride from the mine to the ore dock or they could take one of the three tours offered: of the Tilden Mine, the Marquette Regional History Center,, or the Maritime Museum.
