Grant will renovate building in Houghton
The City of Houghton has received some much needed grant money to renovate a vacant building downtown.
The city received a $110,000 Community Development Block Grant. The vacant building will house Roy’s Pasties and Bakery.
The project includes rehabilitation to the building that will house the restaurant. The restaurant is expected to add eight full time jobs over the next two years. Five of those positions will be held by low or middle income individuals.
The grant was approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The Michigan Strategic Fund approved Michigan Business Development program incentives. The Community Development Block grants total more than $7 million in private investment and 230 new, direct jobs in Michigan.
