NMU marks Women’s History Month
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Several events are planned at Northern Michigan University in honor of Women’s History Month in March. All are open to the public and free, unless otherwise indicated.
The following presentations will be held in the Marquette Room of the University Center on their respective dates: “A Study of the Ethnic Population of Marquette County during Prohibition” by NMU student Amelia Waeghe at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 11; “Exploration of Stella Bell King: Public Health Nurse of Mackinac Island” by Susanna Braman, NMU nursing professor, at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14; and “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby (1970 Connie Brown Essay): 43 Years Later” by Ruth Watry, NMU political science professor, at 4 p.m. Monday, March 25.
A “Roundtable Discussion on Title IX” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in 105 Cohodas Hall. Participants include Barb Patrick, former NMU women’s athletic director; Jamie Tuma, Marquette Senior High School athletic director; Rebecca Mead, NMU history professor; and Cindy Paavola, NMU communications and marketing director.
A “Rag Rug Weaving Workshop” led by Roxanne Eberts of Woolderness Fiber Arts Studio in Hessell is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in 105 Cohodas Hall. It is limited to 10 participants and advance reservations are requested at 227-1219. The cost is $15 for the general public and $5 for NMU students.
The events are sponsored by the NMU Multicultural and Education Resource Center and the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center.
