Former Wildcat earns award from ECHL

PRINCETON, N.J. – Idaho Steelheads forward Tyler Gron is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for February. He is the third Steelheads’ rookie to win the award this season, following goaltender Josh Robinson (November) and forward Austin Fyten (January).
The 23-year-old scored 10 goals, added seven assists and was a +6 during the month, helping the Steelheads to a 7-4-2 mark in February.
Gron opened the month with two points (1g-1a) in a 3-2 win at Stockton on Feb. 1, which was one of three two-point games during the month. Twice during the month, he tallied three points, notching two goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win against Utah on Feb. 8 and tallying one goal and two assists in a 6-0 win at Utah on Feb. 10.
A native of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Gron has 23 points (14g-9a) in 22 games with the Steelheads this season. Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at Northern Michigan University, scoring 97 points (48g-49a) in 140 games. He made his pro debut at the end of last season, notching one assist in three games with Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
