Sponsors support U.P. 200

The start of the U.P. 200 sled dog race is now only three days away.

Snow is a necessity to the race, but so is money.  Race officials say finances are looking good.  Several times in recent years, sponsors of the U.P. 200 have said they were either backing out, or reducing their levels of support.

Organizers say that is not an issue this time.

The good fortune with sponsors is carrying over to the Jack Pine 30 race on Saturday morning.  It has a  $1,000 prize fund for the first time, with the top eight mushers taking home money.  The winner will receive  $200.

Spectators are also being asked to not bring any pets to either the downtown Marquette start of the U.P. 200 and Midnight Run, or to any other viewing areas.  It is for the sake of the dogs, who are already excited enough by racing.
