Man arrested for stabbing Dickinson Co. Sheriff’s deputy

A Dickinson County Sheriff’s Deputy was stabbed in the back over the weekend by a 74-year-old Norway man.

Stabbing suspect Andrew Bray, 74, of Norway, MI

According to Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Celello, the incident took place shortly after noon on Sunday, at the Continental Ski Jumping Tournament at Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain.

Celello says two deputies who were patrolling the event were walking near the clubhouse when the suspect, Andrew Bray, approached them from the rear and stabbed one of the deputies in the upper back. The knife was knocked out of the Bray’s hand. He was then subdued and taken into custody.

The preliminary investigation showed that the suspect was attending the event to target a deputy, however there was no particular target.

A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s house in Norway.

The deputy who was stabbed was treated on scene by Beacon Ambulance. Also assisting at the scene were officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department and Kingsford Public Safety.

The incident is still under investigation. Bray is in jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
