Multiple vehicle accident in Ontonagon Co.

One man is injured after a three car accident in Ontonagon County Saturday afternoon.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Wakefield Post, say the accident happened on U.S. 45, about one mile north of Woodspur Road in Ontonagon Township, on Saturday afternoon at around 2 p.m. CST.

A southbound pick-up truck driven by Kelly Clark, 30, of Ontonagon stopped to make a left turn into his driveway.  He waited for a northbound pick-up truck, driven by Kevin Applekamp, 53, of Ewen to pass before he made the turn.  A second southbound pick-up truck, driven by Zachery Seid, 17, of Rockland, struck Clark’s vehicle.  Clark’s vehicle spun counter-clockwise, and into the path of Applekamp’s vehicle.  Applekamp’s truck struck the rear driver’s side of Clark’s truck, and slid along the entire length of the vehicle.

Seid was trapped in his truck, and was removed by the Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department Jaws of Life.  Seid and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl, were transported to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for the treatment of injuries.  Seid was then transported to Marshfield Hospital by helicopter for his injuries.  The girl was treated for her injuries and released.

The accident is still under investigation.

The Michigan State Police were assisted on the scene by the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Division, Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department, Rockland Volunteer Fire Department, and Sonco North Ambulance.
