NMU Men’s B-Ball falls at LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team traveled across the Upper Peninsula to Lake Superior State University on Thursday (Jan. 24) evening. The Lakers defeated the Wildcats 74-44 from Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
NMU is now 4-13 overall and 3-10 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. LSSU improves to 10-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
Freshman center Matt Iverson had a career-high 19 points to lead the Wildcats. He finished 6-for-14 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
The home squad started the game on a 29-9 run and never looked back. The Lakers led 41-17 at halftime.
Sophomore forward Kendall Jackson finished with 11 rebounds. Sophomores guard Quinten Calloway and junior forward Joe combined for 12 points.
The Lakers had four players in double figures led by Derek Kinney (18) and Cameron Metz (16). Rashaun Carroll scored 11 while Derek Billing added 10.
LSSU shot 54.5 percent from the field and outrebounded the ‘Cats 38-29.
Northern plays at Northwood at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Michigan Tech defeated the Timberwolves 79-65 on Thursday.
