Houghton PD Buys Bulletproof Vests

The bulletproof vests worn by officers from the Houghton Police Department will now be better at protecting them, not from gunfire, but from the heat.

Chief John Donnelly says the change will help keep the officers comfortable on those warm summer days.

The officers will still have the same protection from bullets, but the vests will be worn with an outside carrier instead of an inside carrier.

That makes them much cooler.

The new vests were purchased from Michigan–based Armor Express for about $650 each.
