County Board of Commissioners mining tax update
The Marquette County Board of Commissioners had an update on the mining tax during their regularly scheduled board meeting Wednesday night.
The bill is being presented to the economic development committee in Lansing on Thursday. Members of the board went down to testify, and so far they have not wavered off the board’s position. The board will present changes about buffer lands near local mining companies.
Suicide prevention was another topic on the agenda for the board. Representatives from Pathways, a community mental heath organization presented information to the board. They discussed activities and services the organization provides, and how Pathways helps residents in Marquette and Alger counties.
The board discussed that coordinating with other suicide prevention agencies would benefit the county, and they want to make sure every school district in Marquette County has a suicide prevention program.
