NMU Hockey blanked by Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 19-ranked Northern Michigan University hockey team was shutout for the first time this season on Friday (Nov. 16) evening as the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Wildcats 2-0. NMU is now 4-5-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Buckeyes scored midway through the first period (8:56) with an even strength goal by Travis Statchtuk.

Ohio State (3-3-3, 2-1-2-1 CCHA) added to their lead with a power-play goal at 11:53 of the third period from Max McCormick.

NMU was outshot 35-20. Sophomore forward Ryan Daugherty had three shots for the ‘Cats and junior goaltender Jared Coreau had 31 saves. Brady Hjelle had 20 saves for OSU.

Northern took six penalties for 23 minutes. The Buckeyes had three minor penalties. NMU was 0-for-2 on the man advantage and OSU was 1-for-4.

The two teams meet for the series finale at Value City Arena on Saturday. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
