NMU X-C runners off to Regionals

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team travels to Somers, Wis. on Saturday (Nov. 3) for the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championship. The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 11:30 a.m. Central at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
“We ran a great, smart and strong race at the GLIAC Championship,” NMU coach Jenny Ryan said. “Everybody is ready. They’re healthy and feeling fast after some very good workouts. I definitely have some high expectations for this weekend. If everyone runs as well as we did at the GLIACs we have a chance to be in that top five.”
The top five teams at the regional quality for the NCAA Championship in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 18. The last time the ‘Cats qualified for the NCAA Championship was 2005 when they finished seventh.
NMU is ranked 33rd in the nation and 6th in the region behind Grand Valley State, Ferris State, Southern Indiana, Wayne State and Bellarmine. Teams in the Midwest Regional are from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The men’s 10K race begins at 10:30 a.m. Central and admission is free to the meet.
