MARQUETTE, Mich.—United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestler Max Nowry will be featured in “Faces in the Crowd” in the Nov. 5 issue of Sports Illustrated.
Nowry, of Wheeling, Ill., is being recognized for winning the World University Championships held in Finland in early October. On his way to the gold medal, Nowry defeated three straight opponents without losing a period. A junior at Northern Michigan University, Nowry was named to last semester’s Dean’s List with a 3.61 GPA. He also placed second at the Olympic Team Trials earlier this year.
“I’ve been working hard in the classroom and on the wrestling mat,” said Nowry. “Each win gets me closer to my goal of making the Olympic team. I’d like to thank coach Hermann and my professors for all their help along the way, as well as the New York Athletic Club for their support.”
“Faces in the Crowd” has been published in Sports Illustrated since 1956. The Nov. 5 edition should start hitting newsstands and arriving in subscribers’ mailboxes this week.
