NMU Soccer to close out season at home

MARQUETTE, Mich. The Northern Michigan University soccer team wraps up the 2012 season this weekend with a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchups at home. The Wildcats host Walsh on Friday (Oct. 26) at 4 p.m. and Malone on Sunday (Oct. 28) at noon from the NMU Soccer Field. NMUs four seniors will be honored on Sunday. This is the first ever meeting with both opponents.
NMU (3-12, 2-9 GLIAC) enters the week after falling to Ferris State and Grand Valley State last weekend. Freshman Gabriella Garza, senior Amelia Johnson and sophomores Taylor Smith and Tevun Sellers lead the Cats with two goals each. Sophomore Kim Rietveld, senior Becky Fiorenza and freshmen Tiffany Trembley and Hailey Beyrand each have one goal.
NMUs four seniors are Fiorenza, Johnson, Jenna Peplinski and Brekelle Sellers. Fiorenza has never missed a game, appearing in 74 in the Green and Gold, scoring six goals and adding six assists. Johnson also has played in all 74 career games, scoring 20 career goals and tallying seven assists. Peplinski has appeared in 37 games. Sellers has two goals and
eight assists in 69 games.
Walsh is 8-5-2 overall and 4-5-3 in the GLIAC after a split over the weekend. The Cavaliers walked away with 1-0 Homecoming win over Tiffin on Friday and a 3-0 loss to Findlay on Sunday. Jessie Gearhart leads the Cavaliers with six goals on the season while Erin Peskura has three. Taylor Stano has appeared in 15 games between the pipes. She has a 1.23 goals against average and a 85.2 save percentage.
Malone (1-12-1, 0-10-1 GLIAC) is still itching for its first GLIAC win after being shut out on the weekend by Tiffin and Findlay. Jasmine Evans, Ally Smith and Cassy Daniels have two goals apiece for the Pioneers. Angie Nutial has started in all games as goalkeeper for 86 shots and a 69.9 save percentage.
