MTU Names Tennis Courts After Coach
Michigan Tech honored the memory of a longtime multi–sport coach Friday morning by naming the school’s tennis courts after him.
The late Verdie Cox was the Huskies’ head men’s tennis coach for 23 years and guided them to seven unbeaten seasons.
The courts at Michigan Tech’s Gates Tennis Center are now officially named the Verdie Cox Courts.
Cox also served as the head men’s basketball coach for 19 years, and he was an assistant football coach from 1954 to 1975.
He’s a member of both the Michigan Tech and Upper Peninsula Sports Halls of Fame.
