Accident victim dies: driver's charges increased
The National Mine woman hit by a pickup truck Wednesday has died and the driver now faces additional penalties.
The Ishpeming Police Department reports that 64 year old Linda Marie Vanginkel died early this morning at Marquette General Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.
Police say Vanginkel was hit by the truck Wednesday afternoon on Third Street near the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in Ishpeming.
The driver of the truck, 50 year old Richard Charles Jordan of Ely Township, was reportedly driving without a valid operator’s license.
Jordan was charged Thursday with the five year felony of Operating-License Suspended, Revoked, Denied -Causing Serious Injury.
With Vanginkel’s death, the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office has amended the charge to Operating-License Suspended, Revoked, Denied-Causing Death. This amended charge is 15 year felony and/or $2,500 to $10,000 fine.
Jordan is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on $100,000 cash bond.
