Overland Park, KS – Finlandia University sophomore Shaikiera Armstrong, along with freshmen Marissa Burke and Paige Yoho were named to the 2011-12 Association of Division III Independents Honorable Mention All-Conference Women’s Basketball Team.
“This is great for the Finlandia Women’s Basketball Team for us to have 3 players voted to the AD3I Honorable Mention list,” says Head Coach Jason Keefer.
Armstrong was Finlandia’s leading scorer at 11.1 points per game, rebounder at 9.3 rebounds per game, and shot blocker with 2.5 per game. Coach Keefer is looking for Shaikiera to improve on a successful sophomore season next year as a junior.
Burke had a good year as a freshman. She was second on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game, and rebounding with 5.2 rebounds per game. Marissa also led the Lions in 3-point field goals made with 62. “We are looking for Marissa to improve in the off-season and be ready to go next season,” said Coach Keefer.
Yoho had a really good freshman year for the Lions, leading the team in
assists and steals. Along with those, she was second on the team in 3-poit field goals made. Coach Keefer says “we are looking for bigger and better things to come in her sophomore year.”
