Schoolcraft County Snowmobile Accidents
The Schoolcraft County snowmobile patrol responded to two personal injury snowmobile accidents over the weekend.
Deputies were dispatched to Trail 888 in Alger County at 11:30 A.M. Saturday. The driver of the snowmobile was a young male in his mid-twenties. He was ejected from the sled. Police say speed was a factor in the accident.
The snowmobiler was transported to Helen Newberry Hospital and treated for a broken leg. Schoolcraft County Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Burt Township EMS and the National Parks Service.
Schoolcraft County Deputies also investigated another personal injury snowmobile accident Saturday at Indian Lake. The driver of the sled lost control and the snowmobile tipped over.
A three-year-old child was treated for minor injuries and bruises at Schoolcraft Memorial hospital. The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department was notified after the snowmobile driver and injured child were already at the hospital for treatment.
The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department says snowmobile traffic has been up this winter. They strongly encourage safe and fun riding.
