The Magic of Dog Sledding

Dog sledding holds a special kind of magic.

Gwinn resident and musher Jackie Winkowski hosted a presentation at Houghton’s Portage Lake District Library entitled “The Magic of Dog Sledding”.

Using slides and video, Winkowski shared her experiences as a musher.

But the real star of the evening was the main character of Winkowski’s books, the sled dog Miki.

Jackie’s books “Miki’s Challenge” and “Miki’s Race” were available for sale, along with Winkowski’s latest book, “Promise of the White Dog”.

Children waited in line to have their books signed by Miki herself…sort of.

Jackie has made a stamp out of Miki’s paw print and uses that.

Jackie’s husband Jim will be riding a sled pulled in part by his lead dog, Molly in the Copper Dog 35 race on March 2nd.
