Tigers Avila wins Silver Slugger Award
Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila was given the Silver Slugger Award for the stellar offensive numbers he put up this past season among American League catchers. Avila hit .295 with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs for the Tigers, while primarily catching everyday down the stretch.
“It’s a great honor”, Avila said in a text to the Associated Press. This was the 1st Silver Slugger award in Avila’s young career. He was also up for a Gold Glove for his work behind home plate, but Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters won that award.
Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera won the AL Batting Title, but did not win the Silver Slugger award among AL first baseman. That award went to Adrian Gonzalez of the Boston Red Sox.
