Michigan Tech Men’s B-Ball Team Wins against Finlandia in exhibition
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Sophomore Austin Armga scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team to an 83-49 victory over Finlandia in exhibition play Wednesday (Nov. 2). The Waupun, Wis., native made 6-of-10 shots from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line (7-7).
“Finlandia played hard,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “I was happy with our effort. We played our game, and our discipline was good.”
Senior Mike Hojnacki scored the first points of the game with an alley-oop dunk thanks to a pass from junior Ali Haidar. Hojnacki shot 7-of-8 from the floor on his way to 17-points on the night.
The Huskies opened the game with a 6-0 run and held the Lions scoreless until Anthony Grandberry drained a 3-pointer at 16:18. The Huskies entered the half with a 41-20 advantage.
The Tech lead would grow to as many as 39 points mid-way through the second half. The Huskies found success behind the arc shooting 12-23 in the game.
Sophomore guard Alex Culy made a game-high four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Sophomore Dominic Morrow paced the Lions with 15 points, and freshman Dylan Johnson added 14.
Tech will host Minnesota Duluth to open the regular season Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.
