Hanging up the skates; Modano retires after 21 NHL seasons
Mike Modano announced his retirement from the NHL today, after spending more than 20 years playing the game. Modano was the 1st overall draft pick by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 NHL draft at the age of 18.
He went on to play 20 seasons with the Minnesota/Dallas North Stars. Last season, Modano signed with the Detroit Red Wings to play with his hometown team. He grew up in Westland.
After 21 seasons, Modano is the leading United States player in Goals (561) and Points (1,374) in NHL history. An official press conference is set for tomorrow.
