County Road 595 Open House
The Marquette County Road Commission wants to know what county residents think of its permit application to build County Road 595.
The 22–mile proposed road would stretch from County Road AAA in Michigamme to US–41 in Humboldt.
It has also been referred to as Woodland Road at times.
Rio Tinto would pay for construction and maintenance, as part of the Kennecott Eagle Mine project.
Road Commission engineer/manager Jim Iwanicki says the commission wants to hear what people think of the plans for the road before the permit application has to be sent to the Michigan DEQ.
Area residents were offering their opinions this afternoon and sharing concerns such as whether or not the road is necessary or, if it is, whether it’s proposed for the best location.
Local elected officials, from the city and county level all the way up to Escanaba State Senator Tom Casperson, were on hand as well.
If you couldn’t make it to Lakeview Arena in Marquette this afternoon, you’re certainly not shut out.
There’s another open house session there tonight from 6 to 9, and the Ishpeming Township Hall is hosting one at 6 tomorrow night as well.
