Trust Fund Money for Heritage Trail
Governor Rick Snyder has signed a huge bill to pay for grants from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.
There are well over 100 grants in it, worth a total of more than $100 million statewide.
Some of the money is coming to Marquette County for projects related to the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority will get $400,000.
They’ll use that money to develop 11 more miles of the non–motorized trail network.
This newest portion will run from Marquette to Negaunee, connecting to an existing section of the trail that then runs through Ishpeming.
Marquette Township is also receiving a little over $155,000.
The township will use that to buy more than 4-and-a-half acres of land, so that Schwemwood Park can be expanded.
It’ll be used as a trailhead for the Heritage Trail.
