Manistique Murder Arraignment
The Manistique man suspected in a murder from 2 nights ago made his first court appearance this morning.
21–year–old Nicholas Andrew Smith is accused of open murder in the death of his 26–year–old brother, Michael Smith.
District Court Judge Mark Luoma ordered that Nicholas Smith be held without bond in the Schoolcraft County Jail.
His next court appearance is his preliminary exam, scheduled for Wednesday, March 23rd.
Nicholas and Michael Smith shared an apartment in Manistique.
Manistique Public Safety got a call at almost exactly midnight Wednesday night to go to that apartment.
When officers arrived, they found that Michael Smith had been stabbed to death.
They believe Nicholas Smith was responsible.
He was also at the apartment when police arrived, and officers arrested him.
If Nicholas Smith is convicted of open murder, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
