Cliffs ‘Accident’ May Be Overblown

Initial reports of an accident at one of the Cliffs Natural Resources facilities this afternoon may have turned out to be excitement during a medical emergency.

Shortly before 4 this afternoon, we were told there had been an acid splash at the Empire Mine, affecting two employees.

However, Cliffs officials say there was no acid splash.

They say only one person involved, and that person was suffering from the effects of a personal illness.

Medics were on scene immediately.

EMTs took the victim to Bell Hospital for evaluation.
